The OTC U-Joint Removing / Installing Tool uses a forcing screw press to safely remove and replace automotive universal joints with needle bearings, including GM plastic pin CV U-joints. Use this rugged C-frame press easily to remove stubborn and rusted brake anchor pins from spyders on heavy duty vehicles. Its mechanical screw power does this job quickly and effectively, and it works on brake pins up to 1-1/4" in diameter. Brake anchor pin removal and installation is relatively easy.
First, remove all lock ring retainers from the brake anchor pins. Then position the C-frame press over the brake spyder. Finally, tighten the forcing screw until the anchor pin is removed.
The OTC U-Joint Removing / Installing Tool is extremely useful in assembling and disassembling U-joints. The basic C-frame press is used to service the U joints on most cars and light trucks, either on or off the vehicles. For disassembling, remove any external or internal lock rings. Position the C-frame press around the drive shaft yoke and tighten the forcing screw until you remove the first bearing. Then, reposition the C frame and remove the second bearing.
To assemble a U-joint, first clean all oil and dirt from the yoke area. Align the replacement bearing and C frame press as straight as possible over the yoke, and press the replacement bearing into the yoke. Reassemble the external/internal lock ring. Reposition the C-frame press and the second replacement bearing as straight as possible over the yoke, and press the bearing into the yoke. Again, reassemble the external/internal lock ring. This tool is very convenient and efficient and is a must-have in your auto body repair garage.
